Only 26.5 points separating the three Nations, but it was England V Scotland in the afternoon Matchplay Final.

England started strongly, once the Junior, Ladies & Seniors completed the home Nation were 4.5-1.5 to the good.

Dan Wallbanks took a hard-fought point against Vinny McGuire and Ant Brolia holed from distance on Hole 18 to share the points with Matthew Morgan.

England were now in a good position, leading 6-2.

Tom Wood found David Quigley too hot to handle and Ali Dick took the point from Nathan Appasamy with two holes spare to put the pressure on at 6-4.

Ashley Moden and Shaun Lindsay again showed they are one of the best pairings in FootGolf as they took another point for England, with the score at 7-4 England could now see the finish line.

Captain Sam Lee made it 8-4 with two holes spare, Callum Haig kept Scotland in the game with a two-hole victory over Andrew Duffy, Gavin Craig and partner Willie McKay also took pairs victory tightening the score line to 8-6.

Scotland were in strong positions back on the course in the remaining matches, so all was still to play for. The turning point came as Lee Bennett turned defeat into victory on the final two holes meaning the worst England could do was to draw.

Mick Eardley and Skipper Joe McCourt both completed victories moving the score line to 9-8 with one match left on the course.

Andy Sparks and Kyle Brown were 1up coming up the 18th fairway knowing a tie would see England victorious, the pressure was on. Brown hit a tree from the tee shot as the advantage swung Scotland’s way, a good recovery shot saw Andy Sparks left with a 3-metre putt to win the match and the brainstrust Cup…… After composing himself Sparks made no mistake to spark huge celebrations.

On top of this we raised £1450 for the brainstrust Charity…… Thank you all….

As always, a huge thank you to all who played their part in a superb weekend of FootGolf, the growth of the players and the game including the unity within the three nations is a credit to everyone involved.

See you in Wales in 2023
